A few weeks ago, after Lily's soccer game we were supposed to go to lunch and then grocery shopping, but no one wanted to go. So we went home to eat lunch and I was going to go grocery shopping on my own. I ended up getting Korean food at Hmart on my way home and that is how I ended up taking myself out on a date. And it was quite glorious!
As entrepreneurs and family people, we often find our schedules overflowing. My free time is usually dedicated to my family, business partners, and staying healthy. While these commitments are important, I recently realized I'd neglected a crucial aspect of self-care: taking myself on a date. It had been years since I simply enjoyed a meal by myself, indulging in what I craved and having some quiet time.
This experience served as a powerful reminder: we can't effectively care for others if our own well-being isn't nurtured. Just like on an airplane, you put your oxygen mask on first before helping others. Taking time for yourself, even if it's just a solo lunch break, is essential for maintaining your energy and capacity to love and support those around you. Prioritize your own well-being, and you'll be better equipped to show up fully for the people and projects in your life.
Schedule solo dates with yourself and treat them like any other important appointment.
