Blueprint #52: 10 Questions to Transform Your Network & Uplift Your Life

Lesson: Reflection on Relationships

Every year, I take a hard look at the relationships in my life. The people around us have a huge impact on who we are, what we achieve, and how we feel. Knowing this, I’m careful about who I allow in my inner circle. So, to better understand who adds to my life and who drains it, I ask myself these ten questions:

  1. Who gave you energy?
  2. Who helped you achieve your goals?
  3. Why were they impactful?
  4. How did they help you?
  5. How can you find more time with this person?
  6. How can you find more people like that?
  7. Who took energy and time away from you?
  8. Why did they do that?
  9. How did they do that?
  10. How can you cut them out or reduce their impact?

I find it useful to go through these questions once a year, but you can return to them as often as you need. This simple reflection lets us build a support network that lifts us up, rather than drains us.

Insight: Why It Matters for Business Owners

As business owners, relationships can define both our personal and professional success. The energy we get from our circle can fuel our drive and focus, while the energy we lose to draining relationships can slow us down and cloud our vision. By regularly reflecting on who we’re connected to, we gain clarity on which relationships add true value and which may be holding us back. Strong, supportive relationships inspire and push us, while draining ones tend to lead us to question ourselves or hold back from opportunities. Over time, the company we keep either becomes our greatest asset or our biggest liability.

Actionable Item: Start Small – Reflect on One Key Relationship

This week, pick one relationship to assess using these questions. It could be a person you see daily or someone you feel strongly about. Notice how they impact your energy and time. Use these insights to either nurture the connection or consider how you might reduce their influence on your life. Small, thoughtful shifts in how we manage our relationships can create big changes in how we move through life and business.
